Covid-19 Safety Tips

Some safety tips that the Board would encourage you to follow:

  1. Cancel a match and do NOT play if you feel sick, have a fever, or show symptoms of respiratory illness.

  2. Do NOT touch your face during the match and be sure to wash your hands with soap for a full 20 seconds after playing.

  3. Ensure ahead of time that the court you choose to play at is still open. Some have been shut down due to the pandemic.

  4. Bring hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to sterilize surfaces that you may touch that others may have also touched, especially metal surfaces. If you don’t have access to hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer can be made with aloe vera and rubbing alcohol and homemade wipes can be made with bleach and water on a washcloth in a ziplock bag.

  5. Maintain a 6-foot distance from other players at all times.

  6. Do NOT shake hands, bump elbows, or even touch rackets.

  7. If you take a break, sit on opposite sides of the court.

  8. Consider playing on the same side of the court for the entire match and not switch sides.

  9. Consider each player having their own can of balls marked for their services only. No one else on the court should pick up the server’s balls, just move them around with their racket. Only put two balls each in play at first, keeping one stored away in case someone forgets and handles another player’s ball. If someone is playing on the court next to you, ask them to only touch your stray ball with their racket, and you’ll do the same.

  10. Consider wearing a glove on your non-dominant hand, as a reminder to not touch your face or the other players’ balls.
