The Greater Des Moines Tennis Association's (GDMTA) major activity is to organize summer tennis ladders with multiple divisions to accomodate players of all skill levels.  Juniors are welcome to join; we do no have specific junior divisions but they will be competitive at some level.  (DSM Parks & Rec has a program for recreational junior players-call John Terpkosh at 237-1405.)  Our nominal membership fee entitles members to participate in as many ladders as they choose (e.g.: open and/or age divisions, doubles, mixed doubles) and to participate in both sessions which together run from mid-April through August with playoffs extending into September.

The first of our two seasons starts in mid–April, but you can join and begin playing at any time.  Each division / ladder is available on this site, with contact information for setting up matches. The most advanced players/teams shoud sign up for Division One and those who are starting out should consider Divisions 3 or 4.Complete rules are also available on this site and you should familarize yourself with them..You move up by challenging and defeating players listed above you.  You schedule your own matches at any agreed upon court .  Ladders are current as of the date shown and are updated at least twice a week.  You may challenge anyone above yourself on a ladder and may challenge onto a higher ladder if you want to move up to that division. Scores of inter-divisional matches must be reported via phone and if a player moves up as a result of such a challenge they will be removed from the lower ladder.

.  If you have questions see the more detailed rules available via the button in the left coulmn or call a board member (see above).

The GDMTA is a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation.  Any donations are tax deductible, but ladder fees are not.  It was formed in the early 1940's for the purpose of promoting recreational tennis.  We are a USTA member organization, but you do not have to belong to the USTA to join us.  We are a source for tennis information and we help represent your concerns at the state level for any USTA activity, such as leagues and tournaments.

The main focus of the GDMTA Board is to promote the great game of tennis by increasing our Associations membership.  We need everyone's help in recruiting new members to take advantage of all the good things we have to offer:

  • The Greater Des Moines area ladders – set up matches with players / teams that you are competitive with and report scores to move up the rankings. Trophies and awards for first and second place finishers on each ladder.
  • Free tennis at our monthly socials, generally Oct.– Jan. held at Aspen Athletic Clubs, 7Flags, and/or Drake University.
  • After school programs in conjunction with the Des Moines Park and Recreation Department.
  • Sponsorship of an annual tournament for members.
  • Annual meeting at Aspen Athletic Club, notice of upcoming tennis events and opportunities, and more…

If you know of anyone who is not a member of our association and enjoys or wants to learn tennis, please call one of the following individuals who will contact them to answer questions and ensure they receive an application.
  ••Alan Reed 278-4190
  ••Clyde Miller 221-2967
